i feel beyond lucky that our boys are growing up in the same kind of neighborhood that i did. this morning we got all dressed up in red, white and blue, cut through the wooded fields in back of our house and met a neighborhood full of families who were ready to parade and celebrate. it was awesome! the only bummer was the fire engine never showed. that would have made it over the top. the boys devoured choc. chip cookies, big wedges of watermelon, cruised around in their radio flyer, played with their best friends and got a glimpse of the fun to come by trying out a rad tricycle. this afternoon we'll bbq with some friends and the boys will get to run around the backyard naked, going in and out of the kiddie pool, hosing each other off from the texas heat. i couldn't imagine a better way for us all to celebrate.
wishing you all an equally awesome 4th!

abie totally "got it" when we sang the star spangled banner. he was so into it, i was surprised that he didn't put his hand over his heart!

getting ready to wagon in the parade.

enjoying some chocolate yumminess.

enjoying the parade.

good post! Aidan, Yingying and I didn't get a chance to dress up since we all gotten sick the previous week. But we had a blast observing the crowd from sidewalks. Here are the gallery from my camera: http://blog.studio516.com/?p=199
enjoy!
I loved my 4th of July growing up. The city/town hosted a big parade, and lots of people, neighborhoods, and organizations built big floats and there were marching bands and everything. You'd set out your chairs on the street the night before. Oh, and there were races and games at the elementary schools in the morning, and you always decorated your bike!
Not as much around here. There might be a parade, but not the same neighborhood feel. Hopefully we'll move someplace that has more of that as the kids get a bit older... you know, like back to Chicago. :-)
What a picture perfect slice of Americana! :) Felt like I was there vicariously! No parades here, but tonight, a BBQ with neighbors and post-baseball game fireworks viewed from a blanket on a nearby field.
Hope the rest of your day follows the wonderful start!
Happy Fourth!
Growing up, I lived in a town described exactly as you did (sans the pond). It was awesome and something to look forward to every year.
Although we had fun this year, I told the boys that we're going to go somewhere next year that actually gets dark enough to see some fireworks!
Fun, fun, fun!
Happy 4th!
funny, i was just thinking about you. sounds like the best 4th one could hope for. we hit up our town's festival and parade but when i went to take photos i realized i had left the battery in the charger at home. oops. next year.
the funny thing is they were fascinated with the 100 harley bikers that were doing a pre-parade run. hmmmm, future juvies on my hands, huh?
